Here’s to a New Year–a year of slowing my mind and my striving. I will practice focusing my mind on what is right in front of me in this here and now.
Here’s to allowing myself grace to fail and time to rest. Constantly striving has left me worn down. I will let go of the control I try to keep over every circumstance and humble myself in knowing that life can and will continue on without me.
Here’s to acknowledging God’s presence in every moment and circumstance of my life as I converse with him throughout the day. I will talk to him as I drive, shower, cook, and fold laundry. I will ask the Holy Spirit to give me courage to pray when I have the opportunity with others. I will be intentional about those I need to be praying for, writing their names in a journal, setting alarms on my phone as reminders, and pausing to pray immediately when a friend texts.
Here’s to letting go of my expectations. I’ve realized I knowingly and unknowingly place expectations upon others in my life, including God. I’m usually left with disappointment and its nobody’s fault except for my own. I can certainly expect God to do great things, big and small, but I need to let go of what I expect these things to be. His ways are always better and I need to remind myself of that daily.
Here’s to being held and known as God’s beloved. I can rest in His ever-present power and grace. I will also practice grace with those in my life, allowing them to make mistakes and love on them no matter what.
Here’s to giving up every thought to God and letting Him guide my heart and my mind. I will meditate on His word, reading as much or as little as time allows, but reading it daily nonetheless. Remember, time with God is not limited to a set time of the day. I don’t have to have the perfect setting where all is quiet and children are not around to bother me. I will practice taking a posture of being with my Lord throughout each moment in the day.
Here’s to dreaming big and delighting in a God who provides those dreams as I align my heart with Him in 2018!
“Take delight in the Lord and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act, making your righteousness shine like the dawn, your justice like the noonday.” Psalm 37:4-6
